COVID-19 – Corona virus disease Update

Information and Updates for the OSC2020

30 April 2020

As we informed you earlier this month, we have been monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic closely while investigating potential formats to hold the Open Science Conference and All Hands Meeting. Today we confirm that the event will be held from July 6th to 10th as a 100% virtual meeting. We are therefore extending the deadline to submit abstracts to May 15th and will be opening the registrations mid-May as well. The organizing committee is currently working on an agenda that will accommodate the different timezones of the participants to the best extent possible. More on this shortly!

We were looking forward to welcoming you in person in Leipzig this summer. Nevertheless, we are also confident that even during these difficult times, the OSC will bring together the GEO BON community, albeit virtually, and will become another important milestone in the path of the network.

09 April 2020

GEO BON will be holding the Open Science Conference and All Hands Meeting from July 6th to 10th, 2020. We are monitoring updates from local and international health authorities to decide whether the meeting will be held as planned in Leipzig, Germany, or whether we will hold a virtual meeting instead. In both cases remote participation will be made possible and mindful of the different time zones. The registration fee for remote participation will be substantially reduced. We encourage you to submit your abstracts and continue the preparations for the GEO BON Open Science Conference and All Hands Meeting.

We are also extending the deadline for abstract submission to April 30th. Registration payment will only open in May.

20 March 2020

We know that we are all facing a difficult situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic which demands a lot of re-organization and makes it hard to plan several months ahead. Nonetheless, we are still encouraging you to send your abstracts for the Open Science Conference and All Hands meeting while we are assessing all possible scenarios for the organization. All abstracts already submitted will be fully considered, regardless of any potential change in the event. We will continue to keep you updated via this page.

11 March 2020

We understand your concerns with international travel and meetings this year given the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic.

Be assured that containing the spread of the virus, and preserving the health of the participants are two priorities for the OSC2020 Organizing Committee. With almost four months until the event in Leipzig, it is still too soon to consider a cancellation or postponement of the Open Science Conference and All Hands meeting. We will be monitoring the situation closely and adapt the timeline for abstract submission, early-bird registration and cancellation as appropriate. In the unlikely event that the OSC2020 is cancelled, participants will be fully reimbursed of their registration fees (with the exception of the bank transfer fees).

Updates on the situation will be posted on this page and all participants that have created an account on the registration platform will be informed via email as well.
